Psychiatric disorders among North African migrants and their descendant: racism as a collective and transgenerational trauma

In Europe, since the 2000s, several epidemiologic studies have highlighted the prevalence of psychoses among migrants and migrants’ descendants. RACETRAUMA is designed to question the link between structural racism and mental illness. By considering racism as a collective and transgenerational trauma, my goal is to identify the socio-historical factors that may explain this prevalence. The survey is based on a study case in France and the triangulation of quantitative and qualitative data (secondary quantitative data, psychiatric archives, psychiatrists interviews and life stories with migrants and migrants’ descendants affected by a psychosis).
